Home and Away: Paintings by Karen VanDam Michmerhuizen and Pamela Day captures the beauty of nature through paintings of Michigan's distinct seasons by Karen VanDam Michmerhuizenand Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France by Pamela Day. Karen paints outdoors applying oil and cold wax to canvas with a brush and palette knife. Her plein-air landscapes draw viewers into their natural settings. Pamela paints with gouache, a versatile and opaque watercolor, to capture intimate views a giant Gunnera—from rising bulb to fanned out leaves—in her Giverny in Spring series. Each painting reveals a new stage with a variety of textures, shades of natural colors, and reflections of light in her signature “stylized-realism” approach. Home and Away opens with a free public reception on June 4 from 5 – 8 pm and runs through June 26. More info at www.northvillearthouse.org.
