Join us live via Zoom for the Butterfield Library's Silent Film Series! This month's selection is thriller/mystery "The Flying Ace" (1926), with live musical accompaniment by Cary Brown.
In the film, a young pilot returns stateside after flying and fighting for France. Once home he returns to his previous life as a railroad detective. During World War I, African Americans joined and trained in the French Foreign Legion. The African-American aviator Bessie Colman is believed to have inspired the character Ruth Sawtelle in The Flying Ace.
Directed by Richard E. Norman and starring Laurence Criner and Kathryn Boyd, "The Flying Ace" is Norman's only known surviving film.
