Curtis Chin, writer, activist, and author of the 2024 Michigan Notable Book, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, will discuss his new book that details his upbringing and time working in his family’s Cantonese restaurant in Detroit. Chin confronts identity as he experiences racism as a Chinese American, and then again with the growing awareness that he is gay. This story is told with insight, compassion, and humor. In preparation for this author talk, the Library will host a discussion of Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant on March 12 at 7 p.m.
Registration is required and begins February 25. Bloomfield Township residents have one week of priority registration before registration opens to all.
