Harvey K. Flad is Emeritus Professor of Geography at Vassar College. Dr. Flad’s scholarship has focused on cultural and historic landscapes; landscape design and social history; conservation and urban history; and environmental and urban planning in America.

The second edition of Main Street to Mainframes: Landscape and Social Change in Poughkeepsie tells a story of citizen participation in fostering community change over time and provides a unique lens through which to view Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley region. It provides an exploration of a small city that has undergone many of the social and economic problems faced by much larger ones. It adds important insight into the organic nature of urban systems, including issues of immigration, ethnicity and race, housing and the unhoused, health care, and economic changes in the nation, especially in the growth of the creative and arts-centered economy.

Dr. Flad will talk about the book and sign copies, which will be available for purchase, or guests may bring their own copies to be signed. Refreshments will be provided.
