Community Content, History, Library

Wright Memorial Public Library has been selected as the home of a unique, custom-branded Little Free Library inspired by the newly released children's book We are the Wright Brothers, the 40th title in the award-winning Ordinary People Change the World series by bestselling author Brad Meltzer and acclaimed illustrator Christopher Eliopoulos.

The public is invited to celebrate the new Little Free Library at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, October 19, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in Katharine Wright Park (Aberdeen Avenue side).

Oakwood Mayor William Duncan will lead the ribbon-cutting alongside Wright family descendants Amanda Wright Lane and Steven Wright, Wright Library staff members, and representatives from Wright Library's 2026-2027 Youth Library Ambassador class.

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy light refreshments and community fellowship in Katharine Wright Park.

About the Little Free Library

Created as part of a nationwide literacy initiative championed by Meltzer and Eliopoulos, at least 25 Little Free Libraries were placed across the United States, with one especially meaningful installation at Wright Library. Wright Library was selected as the recipient of this special library because of the enduring connection between the Wright brothers, their family, and the Oakwood-Dayton community.

Wright Library maintains two Little Free Libraries in Oakwood, Ohio.

About the Book

We are the Wright Brothers is the newest installment in the bestselling Ordinary People Change the World series, which introduces young readers to the remarkable lives of influential figures throughout history.
