Art Explorers

Designed specifically for young creators aged 8-12, Art Explorers connects real-world art history with active studio practice. Each session introduces a master artist, breaks down key art terms, and guides students through a unique project inspired by the master's style, techniques, and medium. Art Explorers will meet at 4 p.m. in the Library's Jones Meeting Center on the following Fridays this fall: September 11, October 9, and November 13.

This month, get into the spooky spirit by exploring the quirky, shadowy world of filmmaker and illustrator Tim Burton! Students will discover how Burton uses exaggerated proportions, expressive linework, and deep dramatic shadows to create characters that are equal parts spooky and sweet. Kids will design their own gothic self-portrait using graphite pencils, Sharpies, and blendable charcoal pencils for rich, dramatic effects. Registration is required.
