Author Signing - Celia Ryker

Saturday, 01/07, 3:30-5pm, Auditorium: Join us for an afternoon with author Celia Ryker presenting her book, "Augusta". In the end of the presentation, you will be able to purchase a signed copy.

Book Synopsis: Raised on a hard-knock farm in Arkansas and married off to the father of one of her classmates at the age of thirteen, Augusta was not set up for a life of bliss. Then, abandoned by her second husband in 1920s Detroit, with four children to provide for, she is forced into a decision that will haunt her forever.

From the author of Walking Home, Celia Ryker’s Augusta is historical fiction based on the true story of her grandmother, a woman who lived on a lake and taught her how to catch snakes; a woman who fled the hardships of the Ozarks at the turn of the twentieth century for a new city, and a chance at a better life.

Author's Bio: Celia Ryker has been a horse trainer, horticulturalist, and hiker, and has been writing all of her life. Celia and her husband Don live between Vermont and Michigan with their border collie, Flurry. Visit her website, celiaryker.com

Celia’s first career was with horses.  She trained horses and taught students on Southeast Michigan’s hunter jumper circuit for more than 30 years.  Her second career sent her back to school to study gardening fine arts and landscape design.  They were not just careers, they were passions and when life left room for a new passion she began to distance hike.  Her husband said, “She got to H in the alphabet and stopped.  She went from horses, to horticulture, to hiking.”

Celia has kept journals and written short stories and poems all of her life. She has attended classes and writing seminars and has written articles for newsletters, local newspapers, and The Vermont League of Writers. Walking Home: Trail Stories  Celia, her husband Don, and their border collie Flurry divide their time between Michigan and Vermont.
