Beginning Watercolor Techniques with Rue Sparks

Location: Hastings Public Library – Community Room
Class size limited to 25 participants.
Join us as artist Rue Sparks introduces the basics of watercolor painting. This hands-on class will cover foundational techniques such as creating washes and gradients, understanding when to use wet-on-wet versus wet-on-dry applications, dry brushing, and the differences between liquid and cake paints. Participants will also learn how to care for their materials to ensure they last.
This class is ideal for complete beginners who have always wanted to explore watercolor painting, as well as for those with some experience who would like to refine their skills and learn new tips and tricks.

Participant Supply List:
Attendees should bring the following materials for hands-on participation:
Watercolor paints (tubes, cakes, or palette format)
Brushes (recommended: at least one flat, one round, and one liner)
Watercolor paper (cold press or hot press)
Palette (plastic is fine)
Instructor: Rue Sparks will bring their own supplies for demonstration and instruction.
