Join in a community-wide read of the young adult novel, How It Happens. Written by local author Jean Alicia Elster, How It Happens is the intergenerational story of three Black women and their struggle to stake their claim to the American dream. While it is a young adult novel, this community read is for both teens and adults.
Sterling Heights Library card holders can register to receive a free copy of the book starting December 15, 2022, while supplies last. The book will be available at the checkout desk starting at 3 p.m. the day after you register. This is for Sterling Heights card holders, 13 and up, only. Please one copy per library card number. Once registered, please pick up the book within two weeks and show ID or library card.
For those unable to register for a free copy, ebook formats are available for check out on hoopladigital.com with a library card. If you would like to purchase the book, please consider purchasing through a local bookstore on bookshop.org, such as Oak Park, Michigan's Book Beat.
