Gardiner Library's community writing workshop will encourage participants to start writing creatively and learn how to develop a writing practice. We will explore different avenues for inspiration via reading and discussion of outside texts, writing prompts, and reading our work aloud. By emphasizing open exchange and exploration, the workshop will leave its attendees with tools to develop their writing in the genre and form of their choice.
We will read and discuss Close Range by Annie Proulx for our February meeting.
March - American Journal compiled by Tracy K Smith
April - When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities by Chen Chen
May - Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott
June - Proxies: Essays Near Knowing by Brian Blanchfield
July - Letters to a Young Poet: A New Translation and Commentary by Rainer Maria Rilke (translated by Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy)
The goal of the course is to encourage artistic exploration and writing in any form, so the classroom environment will be welcoming, supportive, and consistently respectful. While giving feedback, the focus will be on what the author is aiming to achieve, as well as the work’s positive elements and potential. At no point will anyone be discouraged from writing or pursuing a specific subject or creative style.
Meets the second Tuesday of every month.
Registration requested for each monthly workshop. Walk-ins are welcome.
