Helping the Bugs: How to Provide Resources for Native Insects

Wisconsin is home to thousands of native insects which play important roles in the ecosystem. At the same time, concerns about global insect declines are growing. In this talk, we’ll examine the challenges insects are facing and discuss ways to help native insects in our own yards and neighborhoods.
The Wisconsin Bug Guy:
Patrick (PJ) Liesch—the Wisconsin Bug Guy—is the director of the UW-Madison Insect Diagnostic Lab. PJ holds degrees in biological sciences (B.S., UW-Parkside) and entomology (M.S., UW-Madison). PJ is also involved with the Wisconsin Master Gardener Program and the First Detector Network. In addition, he is an instructor in the Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator Training and UW Farm and Industry Short Courseprograms. PJ is also a regular guest on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Larry Meiller Show.
