What Was The Star of Bethlehem?

December 2, 2026, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Neenah Public Library

Arts & Culture, Educational, Free, History, STEAM, Technology

For centuries, people have wondered whether the Star of Bethlehem described in the Gospel of Matthew might have been a real astronomical event. Join local astronomy enthusiast Richard Beal for an engaging exploration of the leading natural explanations that have been proposed—including planetary conjunctions, comets, novae, and other unusual celestial phenomena. The presentation will consider what the biblical account says, what ancient observers understood about the night sky, and how historical records and modern astronomy may help us solve this enduring mystery.

A partnership with the Future Barlow Foundation at the Neenah Public Library.

Weather permitting, telescope observing will be offered outside the library following the presentation, providing participants with an opportunity to view some of the season’s celestial sights.
