Kick off National Medical Librarians Month with this webinar that's helpful for ALL library types! From autism and ADHD to nutrition, mental health, chronic illness, and wellness trends, health information is more accessible than ever. Unfortunately, so is health MISinformation. Librarians are often called upon to help patrons navigate a confusing landscape of books, websites, social media content, and popular health advice. So how can you build collections that are both evidence-based and responsive to community needs?
This webinar explores practical strategies for evaluating, selecting, and promoting trustworthy health and medical resources. Participants will learn why misinformation can be so compelling, and how librarians across public, school, academic, and special libraries can support information literacy without alienating patrons. Special attention will be given to neurodiversity-related resources, emerging health topics, and balancing scientific accuracy with diverse community perspectives.
This webinar will discuss:
• How health and medical misinformation spreads and why it resonates with audiences
• Criteria for evaluating health information sources, books, websites, and media
• Strategies for developing patron-friendly collections that prioritize accuracy and accessibility
• Ways librarians can support patrons' health information needs while maintaining trust and neutrality
