Ferndale is located in Oakland County, Michigan U.S. between Woodward Avenue and 9 Mile Road. The city started as a bedroom community for Detroit workers and later became a suburban community. Ferndale has a population of over 20,000 people and is mainly residential. The downtown area thrives thanks to its pedestrian and bike-friendly streets that connect stores, dance clubs, bars, and local restaurants. In 2010, the city won the Great American Main Street Award. Ferndale is best known for its progressive policies and LGBT community.
