Hartford Public Library Summer Reading Program

The Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme for 2022 is “Oceans of Possibilities”. We are changing our format from book bucks to a point system. Each book a child reads or someone reads to them will count as one point. New this year are the opportunities to earn points through other activities such as: read an ebook on Hoopla or OverDrive, visit a zoo, attend a Hartford Library program, participate in a library scavenger hunt, play in a park, go for a walk and collect nature items, visit a farmer’s market, go to a ball game and many other opportunities to earn points in our new program. We always stress reading as our primary purpose, but we want to include other activities as well. Everyone will earn a prize for participating in the summer reading program. There will be 10 top prizes for the children who have earned the greatest number of points. We want at least 50% of the points earned to be from reading books. A list of all activities that earn points is available when you register for the program. Registration opens for all children, tweens and teens on Tuesday, June 16th and all points must be in by Tuesday, July 26th. The opening program is Tuesday, June 21st with Lego building sea creatures from 2pm to 4pm. 

June 21st 2pm-4pm—Build a sea creature with Legos

June 22nd @ 2pm—Wizard of Oz Scavenger Hunt and @ 3pm Stevens Puppets “Wizard of Oz”

June 23rd 2pm-4pm—Create a sea shell collage and make a flying seahorse 

June 28th 2pm-4pm—Build a submarine with Legos and a bridge with Keva blocks

June 29th 2pm-4pm—Dinosaur Scavenger Hunt & build a dinosaur world

June 30th 2pm-4pm—Make a sea creature mobile and paint a sea turtle

July 5th 2pm-4pm—Build a boat with Legos and create a building with Strawbees

July 6th 2pm-3pm—Alan the Magician

July 7th 2pm-4pm—Make a 3D aquarium and paint a coral reef

July 12th from 2pm–4pm—Build a fishing pier with Legos and build with marshmallows

July 13th 2pm-4pm—Make an ocean in a bottle and create 3D glasses

July 14th 2pm-4pm—Pirate Scavenger Hunt and paint a pirate ship

July 19th from 2pm-4pm—Lego Build and clay construction

July 20th 2pm-4pm—Make a mosaic dragon and rock painting

July 21st 2pm-3pm—Zoo visit from Potawatomi Zoo and Animal Scavenger Hunt

July 23rd 10am-3pm - the Hartford Public Library will host a COMIC BOOK FAIR.  At this fair we will have: Comic Books For Sale, Free Comic Books, at 11am - Comic Book Illustrator
demonstration, and at 1pm there will be a visit from Captain America and Spiderman.

July 26th from 2pm-4pm— Lego building with robotics

July 27th 2pm-4pm—Sea monster sidewalk chalk and melted bead craft.

July 28th 1pm-3pm—SRP Party!!! Nerf Games, Obstacle Course, food, prizes and fun.
