Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities™ (HSHC™)

Mondays, 06/27, 07/11, 07/18, 07/25, 08/01, 08/08, 12:30-1:30pm, Youth Early Literacy Room: This is a free 6-week program for kids in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade that teaches children how and why to choose healthy foods and be physically active. Registration is required and is limited to 16 participants!

Description:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities™ (HSHC™) is an educational program that teaches children how and why to make healthy choices. It will provide students with education on how to eat better and increase their daily physical activity. HSHC™ is consistent with the current U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans, USDA’s MyPlate, and the National Health Education Standards. Children will learn healthy behaviors by completing six HSHC™ lessons. Each lesson will be around one hour long and will contain three sections. Healthy behaviors will be learned by completing interactive activities, food tastings, and nutrition-themed physical activity breaks. Lessons will also include Fit Bits, which are physical activity breaks, to get children moving. They will be asked to do jumping jacks, run in place, and a variety of other no-equipment needed activities. The program also aims to connect families and schools with the learning completed in class in order to promote healthy behaviors throughout the community.
