Hildebrand Memorial Library
In 1908, a group of citizens from the “Monday Study Club” established a free lending library for Boscobel. Shelves, books, and labor were donated by volunteers. The City of Boscobel formally accepted the library in 1913 and provided $400 for its upkeep that year. At that time, the library had a formal library board of five members selected by the mayor and council.
Upon his death in 1922, local businessman and philanthropist George F. Hildebrand bequeathed the sum of $25,000 for the construction of the present Claude and Starck designed, classical Carnegie-style building which was dedicated on June 10, 1926. The building is named in his honor.
