Exec. Dir. Susan Evans McClure of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will give a virtual presentation titled "Women at the Helm: Celebrating women leaders of the Champlain Valley from the 18th century to Today". This presentation will cover topics such as female ferry captains on the 120-mile-long waterway of Lake Champlain and how women's suffrage progressed and was shaped by the region. Plus a look at the life of scientist Emmeline Moore (1872-1963), a prominent early freshwater biologist, directed the first full-lake biological study on Lake Champlain in 1929.
This program is a collaboration with the Putnam History Museum and is made possible, in part, through the Putnam Arts Council's Arts Link Grant Program, with public funds provided by Putnam County.
