Oakland County, MI

Oakland is the second most populous county in Michigan and is located northwest of Detroit. According to the 2010 census, Oakland County has a population of 1,202,362. The county consists of 62 cities, townships, and villages. The county’s five townships are Farmington, Bloomfield, Troy, Oakland, and Pontiac. Oakland County was originally known as “Old Northwest” when the U.S. bought it from France in 1803. It was officially organized as a county in 1819. Some fun things to do include: Stony Creek Metropark, Detroit Axe, and Detroit Kid City. A popular event is the Michigan Renaissance Festival, which takes place in late summer until early fall.
