Romeo, MI

The village of Romeo is located in Macomb County in Southwest Michigan. According to the 2010 census, the population is 3,596. The area was first settled by Chippewa Native Americans and was originally named Indian Village. Before and during the Civil War, Romeo was part of the underground railroad. In reference to William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, the city of Juliette, Georgia, and Romeo sell dual postmarks every year on Valentine’s Day. The village is known for its elaborate Halloween decorations of Tillson Street. Romeo is also known for its Peach Festival that happens annually during Labor Day weekend. Other events hosted by the village are the Michigan Lavender Festival and Romeo Zombie Walk. Points of interest include Village Winery, Big Red Apple Orchard, Greystone Golf and Banquet Center, and The Office Pub.
