With 70% of the Earth’s surface covered by oceans, the marine environment is home to a great variety of oceanic plants and animals inhabiting a diverse number of marine ecosystems. In this presentation we will explore some important ocean habitats and the animals that reside there. In addition, we will examine the role these sea creatures play within their respective marine ecosystems.
Following the introduction of marine ecosystems, we will take a deep dive into the fascinating lives of sharks, octopuses and coral reefs, examining their life histories, biology and their role they play in the sustainability and health of the ocean environment.
Our presenter for this workshop will be Tim Kain. Upon earning a degree in marine biology from Florida Institute of Technology, Tim worked at the University of Florida as a Marine Biologist studying the ecology of the wetlands of east-central coast of Florida. Upon retirement as a patent scientist, he joined the volunteer staff of the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago as an Exhibit Ambassador as well assisting the Shedd’s Conservation Research Group in shark research.
This program is free and open to all. No registration is required.
