Their Eyes Were Watching God is considered one of the great literary works of the 20th century. Hurston's work is a "luminous and poetic novel that celebrates African American culture and heritage boldly and brilliantly...it pays quiet tribute to a woman who, though constricted by the times, still demanded to be heard." (Harper Perennial Modern Classics, 2006)
Seekers Book Club is a monthly book discussion group that reads classic and contemporary works by African American authors. The series is a partnership between Johnson City Public Library and the Langston Centre.
