So You Want to Keep Bees?

This is a program to attend BEFORE you start buying equipment and bees. Find out if being a beekeeper is a good fit for you. While keeping honey bees is a lot of fun, it is also a lot of work, a certain amount of expense, and sometimes things can go wrong. This presentation will take you through a beekeeper’s year. You will learn what you need to get started, the cost of equipment, and the time and effort involved. You will also learn about the life cycle of a honeybee, and how they survive the winter and the bugs that plague them. Find out if you really want to keep honeybees or if there is another way to 'Save the bees!'? Randy and Sandy Graichen are the owners of Heart of the Hive Apiary located in Superior Township. They sell their honey in the South Lyon and Dixboro Farmers Markets. Sandy is also the current president of Southeastern Michigan Beekeepers Association.
