Teen Intro to Maker Space

October 25, 2021, 3:00pm - 4:30pm

Sterling Heights Public Library

Arts & Culture

Teens, ages 12-17, will make a project using the Maker Space equipment. This is a great way to get acquainted with the Maker Space and envision what you can create with the equipment provided. During this workshop, teens will use the Cricut and 3D printer to complete a simple cord/ear bud keeper. They will learn the following skills: How to use Cricut Design Space, how to cut materials using Cricut (faux leather and heat transfer vinyl specifically for this project), how to install snaps and eyelets onto fabric, how to use the Makerbot Print software, where to find pre-made 3D files and how to print them, how to change the filament on the library's 3D printers, an introduction to Tinkercad (free, online 3D design software), and finally, how to print a 3D object. By the end of the program, teens will have a cord/ear bud keeper that they have designed, cut, printed, and assembled.
