True Crime Series: The Devil You Know: Father Alfred Kunz

More often than we’d like to believe, people get away with murder. As cases grow cold, cops retire. Witnesses die. Evidence disappears. Unsolved, a true crime podcast series from USA TODAY and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, guides listeners through these real-life mysteries, uncovering new clues along the way. Host and producer Gina Barton will share her experiences investigating and reporting some of these stories.

Gina Barton is an investigative reporter who has been covering criminal justice issues since 2002. Her reporting on lax oversight of police officers and deaths in police custody helped prompt a first-of-its-kind state law that requires independent investigations of all officer-involved deaths. Gina is the reporter, producer and host of the national Edward R. Murrow Award-winning podcast Unsolved and the author of the true crime book Fatal Identity. She has won numerous national journalism awards, including the George A. Polk Award and a Casey Medal for journalism that improves the lives of children. A Chicago native, Gina holds a bachelor’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a master’s degree in liberal studies with concentrations in criminal justice and creative writing from Indiana University-South Bend.
