Ypsilantis Nondiscrimination Campaign

March 15, 2017, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Ypsilanti District Library

Educational, Free

20 Years ago, an act of discrimination against a LGBT student group by a local business resulted in Ypsis inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances (one of the first in Michigan that includes protection for transgender people). This process included an arduous local campaign, surprising tactics, national celebritiesand unified/divided our city in surprising ways. For many, this campaign was a life-changing event, since making positive change is empowering. A panel of campaign, community, and political leaders will tell stories, share memorabilia, and answer questions. Now, more than ever, people are realizing that the fight for equality must include everyone and must be continued. Here is a success story from our own local town that will make you proud of your town and your neighbors.
