Novi, MI

The Southeast Michigan, U.S. city of Novi is located in Oakland County. As of 2010, the population consists of 55,224. A popular belief is that the city was named after the number 6 railroad stop or the 6th toll gate on the Grand River toll road. However, Novi was actually named in 1832, before the railroad and toll gate were constructed. Dr. J.C. Emery and his wife chose the name Novi after residents were looking for a name shorter than Farmington. Novi has the largest Japanese population in Michigan. It is known as the birthplace of the Novi engine, which was a racecar engine used in the Indianapolis 500. Some fun places to visit in Novi are Twelve Oaks Mall, Suburban Collection Showplace, and Maybury State Park.
